“Don’t you find/some of the time/there is always someone on your mind/that shouldn’t be at all” coos Jamie T in the opening lines of his new single. Words of sorrow and longing are scattered throughout, recalling a lost or unrequited love perhaps?
I have always preferred the singer-songwriter’s more emotive songs and this fits the bill perfectly. Jamie sings with a soft tone over a slow dance beat, muted guitar strings and dark synth bursts. ‘Don’t You Find’ may not be a typical comeback single or what you may have been expecting from the London Troubadour, but for me it’s up there with his best work.
So, has Jamie T’s first step back into the spotlight since 2009’s Kings and Queens been worth the wait? My answer is a resounding yes.
